“Awareness leads to action”
What does the ❌ mean?
It means I’m telling the world that slavery still exists, and I won’t stand for it.
Yes, you read that right. Modern day slavery still exists. It's worse now than it was 100 years ago. According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and half are children. Per the National Human Trafficking Center, there is an average of 78 sex trafficking cases every year in NC and Charlotte is the #1 city. I became involved with trafficking about 5 years ago, when I heard a friend of mine speak about being trafficked at UNCC. She was a young adult, so it doesn’t just happen to children.
I’ve spoken on the news and radio and done numerous fundraisers to spread awareness. It's mind blowing how many parents are oblivious to trafficking and that it is happening right here in Charlotte. I have been involved with trafficking non-profits here in Charlotte, including All We Want Is Love, and spoken with victims and how it happened to them, it could happen to anyone, myself included. I have worked for over 10+ years in the promotional modeling field with NASCAR and Miller Lite, to name a few. Along the way, I have met some sketchy people. Thankfully I have been educated on how to protect myself, but not everyone is so lucky.
Trafficking is a $150 BILLION DOLLAR industry (per The Dept of Homeland Security). 300,000+ children are prostituted a year in the US; that's filling the Bank of America stadium ...over 3 times!
Think about that.
We need Senate Bill 500 to pass, which would increase the penalties associated with sex trafficking crimes. I’m slowly seeing more judges make examples out of these predators and give them life behind bars, but the average jail time for traffickers is usually only 5-8 years.
The purpose of my post is to make more people AWARE, INFORMED & INVOLVED.
Also, I’ve had several friends children send me friend requests on social media. I never accept them. I am not friends with children, because I don’t want to have to censor my posts, nor should I have to. I just think it’s inappropriate for a 10 year old to be reading what I’m posting. It really bothers me that so many parents let their young children have social media accounts. It’s not my place to tell people how to parent, but that innocent Instagram account your 10 year old has is potentially opening Pandora’s Box into hell. They are called predators for a reason. They prey on the innocent. This is where it all starts. Educate yourself, parents. These are YOUR children.
