Hi Tide Is A Hit
Don’t mind me. Just over here at Hi Tide Poke & Raw Bar stuffing my face & sampling beers.
After Jackie and I hit Arrichion hot yoga & circuit training (more on that later), we were starving. Thanks to my girl Alyssa for her snaps of her yummy bowl she had yesterday at Hi Tide, we had to go check it out.
So what is a poke bowl? Basically it's a fish salad. If you don't like seafood, this probably won't be a good spot for you, although they do have Hawai'ian Roll Sliders with beef; besides that the menu is mostly seafood. The bowls gained popularity in Hawaii in the 70's. The term poke (pronounced POH-keh) means "to slice or cut crosswise into pieces."
Jackie & I popped in & were instantly greeted with smiles. Everyone was eager to help and answer any questions we had. We were taken good care of by Zach, who informed us he was new to Charlotte (ahhh transplants - those are my people!) Zach was very helpful and was extremly knowledgeable of the menu & had some excellent recommendations.
I finally decided on the Rainbow Bowl (Salmon, Hamachi, Ahi Tune, Scallions, Pickled Red Onion, Red Cabbage, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Limu/Ogo, Carots + Mandarin Oranges) + the we decided we had to split the Tuna Poke Nachos (Crispy Wontons, Ahi Tuna, Avacado, Scallions, Crispy Garlic, Cucumber, Seaweed Salad, Hawai'ian Sea Salt, Creamy Togarashi + Unagi Sauce). I mean, isn't that the point of working out? So that you can eat whatever you want? And let me tell you, I have zero regrets about the tuna poke nachos - they were simply to die for.
Hi Tide is located in the heart of Charlotte on Morehead and South McDowell in the old Asia Oriental Food Market right beside Dilworth Neighborhood Grill. The bowls will run you $8.95 for the regular (which is what I got and was plenty of food) or the large that is $12.95.
What I noticed the most about Hi Tide was how friendly the entire staff was. It had that Chick-fil-a vibe where everyone had manners, and in this day and age, I appreciate manners. I think we were there for about 3 hours and they never made us feel rushed to leave; in fact, the icing on the cake was when the beer distributors showed up with samples, the staff included us - how could we say no? I want to hang out at Hi Tide everyday!
Enjoy your Wednesday!
